Guadalupe Peak (8,749 ft/2,667 m) in Guadalupe
Mts. Natl. Park, is highest point in Texas; region also contains a
limestone fossil reef. Guadalupe Mts. Natl. Park protects the Texas
portion of the range (c.10 mi/16 km at S end);
range continues SSE and becomes Delaware Mts. (Texas). Also includes
Carlsbad Cavern Natl. Park (N.Mex.) and part of Lincoln Natl. Forest
(N.Mex.); extends into Sacramento Mts. in NW.
