Guanabacoa
(gwah-nah-bah-KO-uh), city, (1986 est. pop. 95,500),
Ciudad de La Habana prov., W Cuba; 23°08'N 82°18'W. A residential
and commercial suburb of Havana. Numerous mineral springs are located
near Guanabacoa, whose Native Amer. name means place of waters.
Havana's Jewish cemetery is here, as is a folklore mus. The city was
founded in 1555 on the site of a Native Amer. settlement.
