horses, exotic fowl), crawfish, catfish, alligators; logging; mfg.
(chemicals, plastics, lumber, metal prods., industrial machinery); oil
and gas fields. Drained by Grand R.; intersected by Bayou Maringouin
and Bayou des Glaises. Locks connect Mississippi R. to the Plaquemine
branch of Port Allen-Morgan City canal. Part of Atchafalaya Natl.
Wildlife Refuge in NW corner. Named after Pierre Le Moyne, sieur
d'Iberville, brother of sieur de Bienville. Occupied by Union forces
during Civil War. Formed 1807.
