by Missouri R.; Kansas R. enters the Missouri at NW corner. Has the
downtown and major part of city of Kansas City, (also goes in to Clay
and Platte cos.). Other major cities include Independence, Raytown,
Lee's Summit, Blue Springs, and Grandview. Agr. (wheat, corn,
soybeans, dairy prods.); mfg. grain, and livestock industries centered
at Kansas City. County was designated as the original Garden of Eden by
Mormon prophet Joseph Smith. James A. Reed Wildlife Area in S; Burr Oak
Woods Wildlife Area at Blue Springs; Lake Jacomo, Longview Lake, and
Blue Springs Lake are Army Corps of Engineers reservoirs, Lake Sacamo
Park at Lee's Summit. Professional football and baseball stadiums at
intersection of I-70 and I-435. Formed 1826.
