Jarabacoa
(hah-rah-bah-KO-ah), town (1993 pop. 18,586), La Vega
prov., central Dominican Republic, in the Cordillera Central, on Yaque
del Norte, and 10 mi/16 km SW of La Vega;
19°08'N 70°40'W. Resort in fruit-growing valley. Has fine mt.
climate. Just E are Jimenoa falls, a tourist site and hydroelectric
project. Nickel deposit nearby.
