Univ. of Nebr. at Kearney and Kearney State Col. located here. Mfg.
(plastic prods., machinery, fabricated metal prods., printing and
publishing, transportation equip., apparel). Fort Kearny State
Historical Park to S (named for Gen. Stephen W. Kearny), est. 1848 to
protect the Oregon Trail, was abandoned in 1871. Kearney Co. State
Recreation Area to SE. Co. Fairgrounds, Municipal Airport, Union
Pacific State Wayside Area to W. Inc. 1873.
