Eastern Shore, bounded E by Del. state line, W by Chesapeake Bay.
Coastal plain agr. area (vegetables, fruit, corn, wheat, livestock,
dairy prods.); large seafood industry (esp. oysters); summer resorts;
fishing, hunting. Once Kent co. took in all of the Eastern Shore; now
it is the smallest co. in the area. Includes many old churches and
houses as well as Washington Col., chartered in 1783 and named for
George Washington with his express permission. Formed 1642.
