Keweenaw National Historical Park
(KEE-WEE-naw), Houghton,
Keweenaw, and Ontonagon cos., Upper Peninsula, NW Mich. Commemorates
copper mining heritage of Upper Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula. Interim
boundaries include village of Calumet, which has remained virtually
unchanged from mining days (c.1900), and the old Quincy Mine N of
Hancock. There are also 8 cooperative sites, including Keweenaw and
Houghton co. mus., Fort Wilkins and Porcupine Mts. state parks. Est.
1992; under development as of 1995.
