93°46'W. Bounded N by Can. (Ont.) border, formed mainly by Rainy R.
and Rainy L. in NE; drained by Big Fork and Little Fork rivers. Agr.
area (alfalfa; cattle; some dairying); timber; some resorts in NE.
Lumber and paper milling at International Falls. Area is noted for its
record cold temp. Includes much of Nett L. and Nett L. Indian
Reservation in SE. Large Koochiching State Forest covers much of SE
part of co.; Pine Isl. State Forest covers most of W part; Smokey Bear
State Forest is in N; part of Voyageurs Natl. Park in NE corner. Formed
1906.
