Illinois, Fox, Vermilion, and Little Vermilion rivers. Includes part of
Illinois and Michigan Canal Parkway. Agr. (corn, soybeans, wheat,
cattle, hogs; dairy prods.); clay. Diversified mfg., chiefly at La
Salle, Peru, Ottawa, and Streator. Includes Starved Rock,
Buffalo Rock, Illini, and Mathieson state parks. Nuclear
power plants: La Salle 1 (initial criticality June 21, 1982) and La
Salle 2 (initial criticality March 10, 1984) are
11 mi/18 km SE of Ottawa. Use cooling water
from a reservoir, and each has a max. dependable capacity of 1,036 MWe.
