Mfg. (consumer goods, fabricated metal prods., lumber, commercial
printing, apparel, machinery, tools, machinery, textiles, fertilizers,
wood prods., food, plastic prods.). It has steel and steel-fabricating
industries, although the industry declined significantly in the 1970s
and 1980s. Agr. (grain, soybeans, apples; livestock; dairying). Lebanon
was a flourishing town before 1790, and early 18th-cent. Ger. religious
groups are still represented here. Lebanon Valley Airport to E. The
city has a historical mus., Lebanon Historical Society, Stoy Mus., and
horse shows. Also in the area are the Cornwall Furnace (operated
1742-1883) and the Union Canal tunnel, a civil engineering landmark.
