c.140 mi/225 km long, Kansas (KS) and Mo.; rises in
S Wabaunsee co. c.25 mi/40 km SW of Topeka, E
central Kansas; flows SE through Melvern L. Reservoir, past Ottawa and
Osawatonie, then into W Mo. to join the Little Osage R.
6 mi/9.7 km W of Scheli City to form the Osage
R. Subject to heavy flooding, the river has many flood control
projects.
