114°46'W. Shoreline is 550 mi/885 km long;
reservoir is 115 mi/185 km long,
1 mi/1.6 km-8 mi/12.9 km
wide; max. depth 589 ft/180 m. Formed by
Hoover Dam. Surrounded by L. Mead Natl. Recreation Area, which also
extends S, below dam, to take in L. Mohave (Devil Dam). Has
30-mi/48-km-long N arm formed by Virgin R. Grand Canyon
Natl. Park at headwaters of lake in Ariz. Valley of Fire State Park
(Nev.) on Virgin R. arm.
