commercial and transportation center for an extensive agr. area. RR
junction. There are lignite mines and oil basins in the region.
Industries include building materials, petroleum compounds, farm
machinery; dairy and meat prods. Minot State Univ. (1913) and a state
agr. experiment station are there. Minot Air Force Base is
10 mi/16 km N.; Upper Souris Natl. Wildlife
Refuge to NW.
