2,564 ft/782 m. It is a trade center for a
lumber and farm area where wheat, peas, lentils, and dairy items are
produced. Mfg. (semiconductors, printing and publishing, erosion
control blankets, concrete, wooden cabinets). Originally part of the
Nez Perce Reservation, it was first settled by whites in 1871. The
Univ. of Idaho is there, as well as a historical mus. and a U.S. govt.
