This is one of 3 nuclear power sites in N.Y. state. Nine Mile Point
Unit 1 (opened in June 1969, 610-MW capacity) is owned by Niagara
Mohawk Power Corp., while Unit 2 (opened in 1989 with a 1,080-MW
capacity) is jointly owned by Niagara Mohawk and 4 other N.Y. state
utilities. Lake water is used for cooling purposes.
