bounded by Manitoba (W) and Hudson Bay (N); drained by Severn, Winisk,
and Attawapiskat rivers. There is abundant water power. Contains
numerous lakes, including Big Trout, St. Joseph, and North Caribou
lakes. Gold is mined in Pickle Crow and Central Patricia region.
Formerly part of N.W.T., dist. was disputed bet. Man. and Ont. It was
added to Ont. by the Ontario Boundaries Extension Act of 1912; named
after Princess Patricia, daughter of the duke of Connaught, who was
governor general at the time. Annexed 1927 for judicial purposes to
Kenora co.
