1 mi/1.6 km channel: W arm, on West Branch
Swift R., is 12 mi/19 km long; E arm (many
isls.), on East Branch Swift R., is
17 mi/27 km long. Formed by Windsor Dam for
Boston water supply; water diverted E to Wachusett Reservoir through
Quabbin Aqueduct (25 mi/40 km long). Managed
by the Mass. Water Resource Authority.
