Windward Isls., B.W.I., on SW coast of the isl.,
370 mi/595 km SE of San Juan, P.R., and
50 mi/80 km NNW of Fort-de-France, Martinique;
15°17'N 61°23'W. Port on open roadstead; exports limes, lime juice,
essential oils, tropical vegetables, spices. In a picturesque setting,
it is situated on small Roseau R., with some of the highest mts. in the
Lesser Antilles towering over it, with nearby waterfalls, thermal
springs, and scenic plateaus. Has R.C. cathedral (built 1841), St.
George's Church, Govt. House, Victoria Memorial Mus., and Botanic
Gardens (est. 1891). Canefield Airport
