Shark River , c.7 mi/11.3 km long, E N.J.; rises in E Monmouth co.; flows SE to irregularly shaped Shark R. Inlet, estuary (c.2 mi/3.2 km long) opening into the Atlantic Ocean bet. Belmar and Avon by the Sea; has improved harbor for yachts, fishing boats. Short North Branch enters river just above estuary.
