Somervell , county ( 191 sq mi/495 sq km; 1990 pop. 5,360), N central Texas; Glen Rose; 32°13'N 97°46'W. Wooded, hilly region (elev. c.600 ft/183 m—1,250 ft/381 m), drained by Brazos R. and Paluxy and Squaw creeks. Scenic resort area; some agr. (grains, peanuts; hay), cattle; dairying; sand and gravel. Dinosaur Valley State Park in N, known for its dinosaur fossils, wildlife center; part of Squaw Creek L. reservoir on N border. Formed 1875. Comanche Peak 1 nuclear power plant (initial criticality April 3, 1990) is 4.5 mi/7.2 km N of Glen Rose; uses cooling water from the Sqaw Creek Reservoir, and has a max. dependable capacity of 1150 MW.
