Strafford , county ( 383 sq mi/992 sq km; 1990 pop. 104,233), SE N.H., on Maine (E) border (Salmon Falls and Piscataqua rivers); Dover; 43°17'N 71°01'W. Bordered SSE by Great Bay. Agr. (apples, vegetables, corn, hay, nursery crops; cattle; dairying); timber; sand and gravel. Univ. of N.H. at Durham in SE. Drained by Cocheco, Bellamy, Isinglass, Lamprey, Oyster, and Berry's rivers. Northeast and Milton ponds (Salmon Falls R.) on border in NE; Merrymeeting L. and Powder Mill Fish Hatchery in NW; Bow L. in SW; Blue Hills Range, including Blue Job Mt. (1,356 ft/413 m) in W. Formed 1769.
