Tapachula
(tah-pah-CHOO-lah), city (1990 pop. 138,858) and
township, Chiapas, SE Mexico, at the foot of the Chiapas
highlands and near the Guatemala border on Mexico Highway 200;
14°54'N 92°15'W. It is the commercial center of a
coffee-growing region and an important transportation link
bet. Mexico and Central Amer. Ceramics and leather goods are produced
by local artisans.
