Conn., a suburb of Hartford; 41°46'N 72°45'W. Industrial
production, which comprises a geographically small part of West
Hartford, includes machinery, motor vehicle equip., chemical prods.,
and plastics. An affluent residential town, there are
numerous commercial and professional offices. Site of major
retail malls. St. Joseph Col., the Univ. of Hartford, a branch of the
Univ. of Conn., and the Amer. School for the Deaf (1817). Of interest
is Noah Webster's birthplace and the home of Samuel Clemens (Mark
Twain). Settled c.1679, inc. 1854.
