Yolo , county ( 1,012 sq mi/2,621 sq km; 1990 pop. 141,092), central Calif.; Woodland; 38°42'N 121°53'W. In Sacramento Valley, co. is bounded E by Sacramento R., and rises to foothills in W. Drained by Cache and Putah creeks. Putah Creek forms part of S boundary. Year-round agr. (sugar beets, tomatoes, asparagus, wheat, rice, fruits, olives, beans, nuts); livestock raising (sheep, beef cattle); dairying. Sand, gravel, mercury; natural gas. Processing industries (beet sugar, canned and dried fruits). Has suburbs of Sacramento in E. Berryessa Peak on W boundary; Sacramento Deep Water Canal runs N-S in E part of co., joins Sacramento R. at West Sacramento. Formed 1850.
