The Swainson's hawk is federally listed as a Category 3C species [29].
Swainson's hawk populations have declined in some parts of the United
States [14]. The hawk is noted as a species of special concern on The
Blue List [42]. The Bureau of Land Management lists it as sensitive
[29]. It is state-listed as threatened in California [22] and
endangered in Illinois [41].
