FIRE ECOLOGY OR ADAPTATIONS : 
As a perennial with a narrow root crown, alfalfa will survive most fires
by sprouting after being top-killed.  Alfalfa hard seeds may be
scarified by moderate-severity fires [126,91].


POSTFIRE REGENERATION STRATEGY : 
   Rhizomatous herb, rhizome in soil
   Ground residual colonizer (on-site, initial community)
   Secondary colonizer - off-site seed
