TAXONOMY : 
The currently accepted scientific name of Pumpelly brome is Bromus
pumpellianus Scribn. [14,17,31].  It is in the family Poaceae.
Recognized subspecies and varieties are as follows:

B. p. ssp. dicksonii Mitchell & Wilton (a tetraploid) [3]
B. p. ssp. pumpellianus (an octoploid) [3]
B. p. var. arcticus (Shear) Pors. [7,17]
B. p. var. villosissimus Hult. [17]

Pumpelly brome hybridizes readily with smooth brome (Bromus inermis)
where their ranges overlap [14,16,17].
