TAXONOMY :
The currently accepted scientific name for the marbled murrelet is
Brachyramphus marmoratus (Gmelin). It is in the family Alicidae. There
are two recognized subspecies but only B. marmoratus marmoratus occurs
in North America [2,3].

FEDERAL LEGAL STATUS :
Threatened
OTHER STATUS :
State status: California and Oregon list marbled murrelets as
critically imperiled in those states [34]; Washington lists them as state
threatened [36]; Alaska lists them as widespread and abundant, but with
cause for long-term concern [34].
Canadian status: Marbled murrelets are listed as threatened in British
Columbia [37].
