regalis (Gray) [1]. There are no recognized subspecies or races.

OTHER STATUS :
The ferruginous hawk is a species of special concern in Idaho and
Montana, a priority 3 species in Wyoming [5,18], and is state listed as
threatened in Washington [36]. Regions 1 and 4 of the U.S. Forest
Service list it as a sensitive species [5,24]. It is noted as a species
of special concern on The Blue List [34]. In Canada, it is listed as
threatened in Alberta and Saskatchewan [37].
