ABBREVIATION : BUVI COMMON NAMES : great horned owl big-eared owl hoot owl cat owl TAXONOMY : The currently accepted scientific name of great horned owl is Bubo virginianus (Gmelin) [38]. The widespread yet sedentary nature of the great horned owl has given rise to a number of races and subspecies, probably due to lack of interbreeding.
