TAXONOMY : 
The currently accepted scientific name of sweet pepperbush is Clethra
alnifolia L.  The Clethra genus is in the family Clethraceae and
consists of two species.  There are two recognized varieties of sweet
pepperbush [7,22]:

        Clethra alnifolia var alnifolia L.
        Clethra alnifolia var tomentosa (Lam.) Michaux
