The currently accepted scientific name of flannelbush is Fremontodendron
californicum (Torr.) Cov. It is a member of the cacao family
(Sterculiaceae) [23,26]. Accepted infrataxa are F. c. ssp. californicum
and F. d. spp. decumbens (R.Lloyd) Munz) [48].
