GENERAL DISTRIBUTION : Oregon white oak is distributed along the Pacific Coast from southwestern British Columbia, including Vancouver Island, south through western Washington and Oregon to the Coast Ranges and the Sierra Nevada in southern California [4,32,38]. Brewer oak occurs in the higher elevations of the Coastal, Klamath, Cascade, and Transverse Ranges, and the Sierra Nevada [38,51]. It is also found in mixed stands with conifers or other broad-leaved trees [13]. The "shin oak" communities of southern California are dominated by this variety [15,30].
