ABBREVIATION : BUBO COMMON NAMES : western toad boreal toad TAXONOMY : The currently accepted scientific name for western toad is Bufo boreas [13,16]. Accepted subspecies are as follows: Bufo boreas ssp. boreas boreal toad B. b. ssp. halophilus California toad, alkali toad [13,16] The black toad (formerly B. b. ssp. exsul) and the Amargosa toad (formerly B. b. ssp. nelsoni) have been given species status as B. exsul and B. nelsoni, respectively, and are therefore not treated in this writeup [16].
