ABBREVIATION : CARROS SYNONYMS : Carex brevipes Boott SCS PLANT CODE : CARO5 COMMON NAMES : Ross' sedge TAXONOMY : The currently accepted scientific name of Ross' sedge is Carex rossii Boott [13,19,30,40]. LIFE FORM : Graminoid FEDERAL LEGAL STATUS : See OTHER STATUS OTHER STATUS : The Nature Conservancy ranks Ross' sedge as globally secure (G5) but critically imperiled (S1) in the state of Washington [45]. There are several occurrences of Ross' sedge in ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa) forests of the Black Hills, South Dakota, where it is at the edge of its natural range. It appears to be secure in South Dakota at this time but is uncommon and may be localized or declining [20]. COMPILED BY AND DATE : Amy B. Cope.
