Michael Ellis DeBakey

Michael Ellis DeBakey (September 7, 1908 – July 11, 2008) was a world-renowned American cardiac surgeon, innovator, scientist, medical educator and international medical statesman. DeBakey was the chancellor emeritus of Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, director of The Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center, and senior attending surgeon of The Methodist Hospital in Houston. He is known for his work on the treatment of heart patientsand for his role in the development of the mobile army surgical hospital.

Denton Arthur Cooley

Denton Arthur Cooley (born August 22, 1920) is an American heart surgeon famous for performing the first implantation of a total artificial heart. Cooley is also founder and surgeon in-chief of The Texas Heart Institute, chief of Cardiovascular Surgery at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital, consultant in Cardiovascular Surgery at Texas Children’s Hospital, and a clinical professor of Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.

•     Awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Ronald Reagan in 1984, the nation’s highest civilian award.
•     The René Leriche Prize, the highest honor of the International Surgical Society.

Dr Naresh Trehan

Dr Naresh Trehan is a renowned Indian cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgeon. After graduating from King George Medical College, Lucknow, India, he went on to practice at New York University Medical Center Manhattan USA from 1971 to 1988. After a successful career in the US, he returned to India and started Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre. At present, he serves as the chairman and managing director and chief cardiac surgeon of MedantaTM-The Medicity.

He has served as personal surgeon to the President of India since 1991, has received numerous awards, including the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award. Sir Magdi Habib Yacoub (born 16 November 1935) is an Egyptian cardiothoracic surgeon. He is Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Imperial College London.
