Panama's services sector dwarfed agriculture and industry, and
its share of GDP was growing in the late 1980s. In 1965 services
accounted for about 63 percent of GDP; by 1985 that share had risen
to about 73 percent. In the latter year, transportation contributed
25.3 percent of GDP, followed by financial services (14 percent),
government services (13.2 percent), wholesale and retail trade
(12.3 percent), and other services (8.1 percent).
