Nigeria INTERNAL SECURITY
Threats to internal security in Nigeria have been
persistent
and chronic. They stemmed from endemic divisions that were
aggravated by rapid socioeconomic changes and by
deteriorating
economic trends. Political and civil disorder, extended
periods
of military rule, human rights violations, rampant crime,
and
inadequate security forces and penal institutions defined
the
internal security environment at the beginning of the
1990s.
