India’s Largest River Island – Majuli, Assam
Majuli is a large river island in the Brahmaputra River, Assam, India. The island had a total area of 1,250 square km. Majuli has shrunk as the river surrounding it has grown. Majuli island is accessible by ferries from the City of Jorhat. The island is about 200 kilometres east from the state’s largest city Guwahati.
The island was formed due to course changes by the river Brahmaputra and its tributaries, mainly the Lohit. Majuli is an island,it is always a wet place. The southern part of the island is a bird lovers paradise. Between November and March is the best time to visit this place.

Gurudongmar Lake, Sikkim
Gurudongmar Lake is one of the highest lakes in the world. It lies in the district of North Sikkim in the state of Sikkim in India, only some 5 kilometres south of Chinese border. The lake can be reached by road from Lachen via Thangu.
Gurudongmar lake provides one of the source streams of the Teesta River. The source of Teesta, the Tso Lhamo Lake, lies some 5 km to the east. One can seek permission from the army to trek from Gurudongmar Lake to Tso Lhsmo Lake. The lake remains completely frozen in the winter months from November to Mid-May.
