Poison dart frog is the common name of a group of frogs in the family Dendrobatidae and these are found in Central and South America. These species have brightly colored bodies.

Most species of poison dart frogs are small, sometimes less than 1.5 cm in adult and few grow up to 6 cm in length. Their bright coloration is associated with their toxicity and levels of alkaloids.

There are around 175 species of poison dart frogs, varying in color and pattern. They may live more than ten years in captivity. Poison dart frogs feed mostly on spiders and small insects such as ants and termites.
