Hungary Industry
Energy and raw-material extraction accounted for 13.1
percent
of gross industrial production in 1986; metallurgy
contributed
8.3 percent; engineering, 25.6 percent; chemicals, 19.1
percent;
light industry, 12.9 percent; food processing, 16.8
percent;
building materials, 3.2 percent; and other miscellaneous
industry, 1 percent. As this industrial profile shows,
Hungary's
industry continued to reflect the Stalinist emphasis on
heavy
industry inherited from the immediate postwar period.
