The republic has an executive branch, a unicameral legislature, and a judiciary headed by a supreme court. The president, who is head of state, is elected by popular vote for a five-year term. The prime minister is appointed by the president. There is a popularly elected 190-member national assembly. Armenia is divided into 10 provinces and the capital district.
