ParnassOs[pAr´´nAsOs´] Pronunciation Key or Parnassus[pArna´sus] Pronunciation Key, mountain, c.8,060 ft (2,460 m) high, Phocis, central Greece. In ancient Greece it was sacred to Apollo, Dionysus, and the Muses. The fountain of Castalia was on its slopes; at the foot of the mountain lay Delphi. Corycian Cave, sacred to Pan, is located between Delphi and the summit. Bauxite is mined on the slopes.
