Auburn , city (1990 pop. 33,102), King co., W Wash., suburb 22 mi/35 km S of Seattle, and 10 mi/16 km ENE of Tacoma, on the Green (NE) and White (S) rivers; 47°18'N 122°13'W. It is a RR center and farm trade center. Large aircraft industry; site of a Federal Aviation Administration air traffic control center (est. 1962). Strawberries, vegetables; dairying; poultry, cattle; mfg. (lumber, dairy prods., aircraft parts, sheet metal prods., plastic prods., machinery and machinery parts, bldg. materials, furniture, wood prods., machinery parts; metal stamping). Large General Services Administration Center and Green River Community Col. here. Seattle Internatl. Raceway to NE. Kanaskat-Palmer and Nolte state parks to E; L. Tapps reservoir to S; Muckelshoot Indian Reservation to SE. Auburn Municipal Airport to N. Settled 1855, inc. 1914.
