in the Panhandle; 35°39'N 101°24'W. Elev.
3,116 ft/950 m. After the discovery of oil in
1925, Borger grew as the industrial center of a vast natural-gas and
oil field. In the area are many refineries and factories, mfg.
(construction materials, chemicals, machinery). Irrigated agr. and
livestock raising also add to the city's economy. Frank Phillips Col.
is in Borger, as is a monument to Native Amer. flint quarries. Inc.
