Claiborne (KLAI-buhrn), county ( 501 sq mi/1,298 sq km; 1990 pop. 11,370), SW Miss; Port Gibson; 31°58'N 90°54'W. Bounded W by Mississippi R. (La. state line), N by Big Black R.; drained by Bayou Pierre. State line extends W of Mississippi R. to Yocatan L., oxbow lake and former river channel. Agr. (cotton, corn, soybeans; cattle; timber). Grand Gulf Military Park in W, on Mississippi R. Grand Gulf 1 nuclear power plant is 25 mi/40 km S of Vicksburg, uses cooling water from the Mississippi R., and has a max. dependable capacity of 1143 mw. Formed 1802.
