8 mi/12.9 km NE of Honolulu, across Koolau
Range, on Kaneohe Bay; 21°24'N 157°47'W. Once the site of a
pineapple plantation and cannery, it is a residential seaside
community. Mfg. (printing and publishing, jewelry). Windward Community
Col.; Hawaii Loa campus of Hawaii Pacific Univ. The U.S. Kaneohe Marine
Corps Base is nearby; it was attacked by the Japanese on Dec. 7, 1941.
Many anc. fishponds built by Hawaiian chiefs are in the area. Kaneohe
